What is the problem with the Michigan website on the State license plate? The state is forcing commercial advertising upon you without your authority. Instead of paying the local paper, radio station, or television station, the state, without your permission, is forcing you to be a rolling billboard for the state, depriving several important considerations:
1. the income you could, in theory generate if you wish.
2. forcing the will of the State upon you, whether you wish it or not.
3. in the case of vanity plates, de-valuing the premium price paid
for the plate.
4. The State is switching from promotional advertising found on
non-commercial broadcasting to campaign advertising found on
commercial broadcasting. It is a difference of "Go (our
team!)" to "Buy this product!" Where is your
advertising fees?
5. The State of Michigan is stealing from you! It is the same as
using a billboard without paying the rental fees.
It is our estimate that the commercial value is $5,000 a year per car. The State can pay the $5,000 or re-issue the plate.
